When I was first referred to Dr Kankate I was experiencing significant amount of pain in my right foot. I have always had flat feet, but this had progressively worsened over the years to the point that I was lame and unable to do so many things because of the pain.

After an initial examination he informed me that I would have to have major surgery to stop my foot from deteriorating further. It was a real relief to know that there was something could be done but I was also apprehensive at the thought of a major operation followed by a significant stint of rehabilitation.

I was really put at ease with regards to the operation and what would happen afterwards. Every aspect was talked through and he was always happy to ask any questions I had. The level of care I received both during and after the operation was simply excellent, I could not have asked for a better surgeon and team.

The operation has been nothing short of transformative, I have no pain anymore and have become so much more active now participating in multiple outdoor family activities and sport.

It has been almost 4 years since the operation and my foot is still improving.

I had been lucky enough to not require any major surgeries... until early last year when I severely damaged my left knee in a skiing accident. I needed two surgeries that required meniscus / cartilage repair in a few places and ligament repair, including ACL reconstruction, posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament.

From the offset, Dr Kankate made every effort to patiently and thoroughly explain the medical implications of my injuries - I felt like I was in safe hands from the first day that I met Dr Kankate. The surgeries I required were complicated and intricate - Dr Kankate and his team handled these with the utmost precision and excellence. Every step of the way post surgeries, Dr Kankate was always available, informative, supportive and reassuring. He continued to very clearly explain the whole orthopaedic process I had undergone, the resulting changes I could expect and the physio and other support I would need through my recovery process.

It is coming up to a year from my injury and with the support of Dr Kankate and his team, I have come a long way. I am struggling to find the words to articulate how brilliantly Dr Kankate handled my case - in both the surgery itself and the aftercare. I don't think I could have asked for more at any stage of the process. He would definitely be my doctor of choice if I was unfortunate enough to go through anything like this again :).

NHS podiatry encouraged me to see Mr Kankate on the NHS after a failed Keller’s procedure. Mr Kankate carried out revision surgery in 2014. I have valued his unhurried and caring manner. He always takes the time to explain what the problems are, and suggests solutions he thinks may improve my foot function.

Mr Kankate listens carefully to patient concerns, and will say if he thinks surgery is, or is not indicated. Mr Kankate communicates clearly using non technical language, yet is happy to engage at a more technical level as required which I have appreciated.

I have also appreciated the fact that Mr Kankate has kept me in the NHS system with yearly reviews when he could reasonably have discharged me 2 years ago. My foot function is greatly improved from the post Keller situation. I recommend Mr Kankate without hesitation!
