Both Ankles

Hi Mr Kankate

It was nice to see you briefly on my last appointment back in September.

Your colleague put my mind at rest as it seems that both my ankles are healing well.

My left ankle is getting better each day and intense pain that reoccurred a few months ago has now thankfully subsided and the swelling that I was also concerned about is also easing.

On each of my visits to you, I have always felt welcomed and able to speak freely about my concerns.

I have always felt that there is a genuine care and never felt rushed in my appointments.

The explanations of the injury are clear and never felt confused on leaving the appointment.

I do understand that you have a very busy clinic, but I have noticed, that my appointments recently have been pushed back a few times.

My appointment due on July 16th was cancelled and re booked for August 6th. This date was then cancelled and changed to September 24th.

On my last visit (September 24th), your consultant asked me to booked another visit in 2/3 months time and was given December 10th. This also has now been changed to January 28th 2020.

Apart from the small point above, I'm so happy with the treatment that you and your colleagues provide.

I'm so very grateful to you for all you have done for me in the past and the level of care that you have recently provide for me.

Thank you so much

Kindest regards

Foot Surgery

Dear Mr Kankate,

After my foot surgery in July you asked me to provide you with some feedback about my experience.

I have been very pleased with the entire process.  The Day Surgery unit at High Wycombe Hospital was very well organised and the staff there were really helpful and reassuring.  As I had never had a general anaesthetic before I was particularly nervous about this aspect but everything went very smoothly.

I believe that you found my second toe difficult to straighten and therefore had to put a pin in it which I wasn't expecting but this surprisingly didn't cause me much discomfort.  In fact I was quite surprised that I only needed to take a few paracetamol and ibuprofen during the first few days after surgery.

I returned to High Wycombe Hospital about 10 days later to have the dressing removed and I could then see my foot for the first time.  Again, I was surprised how good it looked as there wasn't much bruising and the stitches were healing really well.  After nearly 5 weeks, I returned to the hospital again where you removed the pin in my second toe which came out really easily and painlessly.  Once this pin was removed I found it much easier to get about and my foot really improved every day.

I am now back to my normal walking speed and initially my foot would swell up quite a lot after a full day at work but that is now subsiding and doesn't swell up much at all.

I was given a foot brace to wear at night which I am still doing and forgot to ask how long to do this for at my final appointment with you - is this something that I should continue?

I am so pleased that I took the decision to have this surgery - I have a straight foot for the first time in years and the aching that I would experience at the end of the day has gone completely so I would like to say a big thank you to you and your team.

Kindest regards

Midfoot Fusion

My name is Sigurlaug Thorsteinsdottir Benfield and I first met my consultant Mr. Kankarte in 2008, when he got me ready for my right foot operation (mid-foot fusion) in January 2009.  He explained everything that was happening very well and made me at ease. He came across very professional.

Unfortunately on the day of my operation Mr. Kankate was on holiday and another surgeon stepped in and did the operation.  The fusion did not work and Mr. Kankate corrected this with another operation in October 2009, which was successful.  Mr. Kankate did go over and beyond to make sure I was well looked after throughout my aftercare from the operation.

This year I went to see Mr. Kankate again and he remembered me from my last operation (which impressed me somewhat, as he has so many patients).

On the 15th March this year (2019) Mr. Kankate proceeded another operation, but this time on my left foot. Similar kind of operation (mid-foot fusion) as he did on my right foot all those years ago. Again Mr. Kankate reassured me every step of the way. He even gave me his word that he will be doing the operation himself.  Needless to say that all went well and I am still in recovery without any complications.

Mr. Kankate is not only a competent consultant and is outstanding surgeon, he also has a passion for his patients and gives them time and all reassurance they need.  This has been my experience regarding Mr. Kankate.

Kind regards

Fracture Fibula

Dear Mr Kankate,

Thank you so much for the expert care and attention you showed towards me and my fractured fibula.

At each step of the way you have carefully explained the options, patiently answered my questions and dealt with my fears. You have been a trusted advisor, guide and surgeon and I would not hesitate to recommend you to others with knee or ankle issues.

With every good wish.

Ankle Replacement

Dear Mr Kankate,

I would like to write to you to tell you how the ankle replacement operation I had in 2017 has transformed the quality of my life.

Before the operation I was in constant pain particularly when trying to walk and this had become so severe that it had resulted in me being virtually immobile.

I try to live an active life, am a member of many clubs and have 5 grand children who I spend a lot of time with. I have lived with this pain for many years and forced myself (through the pain) to try to keep a sense of normality as much as I could.

At the time of  the operation, I felt that the pain in my ankle was so bad that it was having a profound effect on my life.  I couldn’t venture out without driving and could just about move around one shop which meant that the rest of the day was spent resting as the pain was excruciating.

Now, after the operation, I can do my own shopping and have taken my grand children on holiday on my own and was able to cope with the physical movement that this demands.

I will never be able to walk a marathon, or for hours on end, but being pain free has truly transformed my life.

I would like to say a big thank you to you and your team for considering me for and undertaking this major operation.

Yours Faithfully

Eileen Langford

Missed Fracture

I am writing to let you know what amazing care I have had at High Wycombe Hospital recently.

I have been seeing Mr Kankate and his team for the past 3 years after a missed fracture had been realised. In March this year Mr Kankate mid foot fusion surgery for on going pain.

I have been very impressed with the treatment I received from him, his team and the staff on ward 12a, a special thank you to the night staff, who I believe had the worst of my recovery period.

I am now pain free for the first time in over 3 years and feel I have my life back and can soon start enjoying a more active life.

Please could you pass my gratitude and thanks onto all concerned.

Many thanks

Foot Surgery

In these difficult times of the NHS , with people working very often in very demanding circumstances, I would like to comment on my recent experience.  I have lived for many years now in the High Wycombe area and been treated in the hospital over several decades.

I have recently received surgery on my foot by Mr Kankate A truly lovely Consultant. I wish to praise him and also all the staff that work alongside him in various capacities.

The appointments people are particularly helpful as well of course the nursing staff etc etc.

Despite Wycombe Hospital’ s age and need of updating it is a cheerful clean place with enhanced by very helpful staff.  This goes a long way in these stressful times of cuts and long waiting times and which they are powerless to change.

I pray there will be funding to help the staff but wanted you to know how pleased I  have been at my experience regarding my own particular surgery.

So ...... It’s not all bad apart from the long long waiting periods still thank you

Best wishes

Philippa Louise Dowling

I am emailing to let you know the result of the last steroid injection to try and relieve the pain in my left foot that had been caused by a Morton’s neuroma that had developed following the removal of a bunion a few years ago. Well, I have waited a while to be sure, but am very pleased to report that it appears to have worked and I am now pain free!

I now have two straight, pain free feet, which I am very delighted about, having lived with painful bunions for many years before my visits to you.

So, thank you very much and although it has been a pleasure meeting you on many occasions I hope I won’t be back again!

I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me and for your very kind and friendly manner which always put me at ease.

Kind regards

Philippa Louise Dowling
